Great article and I think it’s good that you are sitting with repressed feelings and thoughts. One thing I’ve learned in my mindfulness practice is that while we cannot control what enters our mind, we can then apply the RAIN acronym:
R-Recognize the thought
A-Acknowledge the thought
I-Investigate the thought
N-Non judgement of the thought
I’ve personally found that the nonjudgmental piece to the RAIN acronym makes it easier to then dismiss the thought and move on.
The goal of course is not to let thoughts, feelings and perceptions dominate and overwhelm us. I try not to get caught up in the “Movie of Me” and instead focus on being the movie screen, where I can simply observe and not let the drama of the movie impact me. Make sense? Best of luck to you!
